The Practice of Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is the yoga of aware sleep, a sleepless sleep. Yoga Nidra is a practice of stillness and conscious creation. A practice of pratyahara or sense withdrawal, this practice reduces our awareness of the outside world which allows us to go deeper within ourselves. In this state of deep relaxation our unconscious mind is allowed to totally rest and one becomes empowered to actively participate in their healing process.
The health benefits of Yoga Nidra have been scientifically proven and include significant reduction in anxiety and depression, stress reduction, positive decreases in blood pressure, improved sleep, increases dopamine production naturally, improves heart rate variability, decreases pain, reduces sympathetic nervous system activity, repattern energy flow in the body, break negative behaviors, and more.
Results showing Yoga Nidra to be beneficial for groups varying from adolescents, to nurses, to college professors while treating ailments from diabetes to anxiety to drug addiction.
A typical Yoga Nidra practice involves stillness and conscious awareness. Participants lie comfortably on the floor on their back as in savasana, eyes closed, listening to guided relaxation, visualize within, and empower healing and conscious creation. It is a deeply relaxing and restorative experience that creates a greater awareness of self with continued practice.
This practice is accessible to all bodies.
The greatest danger in Yoga Nidra is falling into normal sleep.
